It had it all. It had the best of Jewish music; the best singing vocals – both home-grown and on the international scene; memorable divrei Torah; chasidishe stories; an awesome feeling of achdus; a stirring video presentation; delicious food; a tropical setting; and a wonderful Yiddishe atmosphere. |
Once again, the “3M’s” presented an emotional, stirring and wonderfully memorable musical extravaganza.
Hosted by Mendy Tajtelbaum and Moga Kahn, and fronted by the popular Mordechai Ben David, the kumzitz and evening was quite exceptional in all respects.
The star attraction was the well-loved MBD who was hosted over Shabbos in Stamford Hill by Moga.
MBD inspired the crowd by performing many of his old and new favourite nigginim, rendered with his typical hairgish and dveykus. He was joined by his son Yeedle who sang several of his hit songs. Joining them was the affable, sensational Shloime Gertner. The singers were accompanied by amazing child soloist Chaim Stern.

Mendy Tajtelbaum’s drosho recalled his saintly father’s efforts to raise awareness of the Holocaust. He noted how, at a seuda shlishis in Eretz Yisrael, his father pulled up his shirt to reveal the tattooed number on his arm to today’s generation. He urged them not to forget and to reaffirm love and commitment to Yiddishkeit no matter the golus that Klal Yisrael face. Mendy observed how music, in particular, has the power to bring home this emotional message and convey the difficult lessons of the Holocaust to the masses.

One of the highlights of the evening followed, as the audience were treated to an emotional-laden video of the Holocaust and to contemporary flashpoints of the Jewish people in exile entitled “Yitzkaraim”. Against this backdrop, MBD sang the rousing composition “Av HaRachamim”. This presentation was interspersed with pictures of Mendy’s unforgettable father, a Holocaust survivor, and scenes of his levayah in the presence of thousands of Gerrer chasidim. |
The night, which was to raise funds for the mosdos and charitable activities run by HaRav Yitzchok Meyer Morgenstern shlita, was a great financial success to achieve the targets which the organisers hoped to achieve.
Stressing the importance of tzedakah, Mendy noted the cunning schemes of the yetzer hara to thwart our charitable activities making it “difficult” for us to perform this mitzvah. He observed the harsh punishment to Elimelech who fled Eretz Yisrael rather than remaining to help the poor. He cited the Sefas Emes’ interpretation how giving to a poor person tzedakah removes any would-be accusations the pauper may have on HaKodosh Boruch Hu. This is the “sholom” achieved in the saying marbah tzedokah, marbah sholom; where one increases tzedakah, this increases sholom between the poor person and his Father in heaven.
This inspiring and memorable evening organised by Moga and Mendy was much more than a concert.
It was an uplifting musical evening. This kumzitz and hisorreros began at midnight and mesmerized the audience up and until daybreak, when it was followed by shacharis.
One thing is sure: The messages and experience will not be forgotten for a long time. |
